Mobile navigation should help readers move, not display the full information architecture in miniature. On a content-heavy site, the highest-value paths are usually search, latest posts, tags, authors, and the current article context.
A native-feeling menu is compact, labelled, and easy to dismiss. It does not need elaborate animation to feel good. It needs to preserve orientation.
Make links obvious
The menu trigger needs an accessible name. The open panel needs a visible close path. Links need generous hit targets and enough contrast to work in a dark interface.
Preserve the reading path
On article pages, mobile navigation should not fight the reading experience. A slim header, a progress indicator, and a short set of destinations are enough.
